Scholarships & Fellowships

Chicago Dramatists offers two separate opportunities for writers through our scholarship and Fellowship programs.

MEH Lewis Scholarship

The first is our MEH Scholarship, created in memory of Resident Playwright M.E.H. Lewis. This program is dedicated towards helping Chicago-based writers, by covering 75% of the cost of classes here at Chicago Dramatists.

Tutterow Fellowship

Our second program is the Tutterow Fellowship, named after our late former Artistic Director Russ Tutterow. This two year fellowship is dedicated to supporting emerging playwrights who may not otherwise be afforded such an opportunity. Two-thirds of each cohort are reserved for historically under-represented voices: writers of color, LGBTQIA, differently-abled, and/or neuro-divergent.

Access Fellowship

The Chicago Dramatists Access Fellowship for Deaf & Disabled Artists is in honor of Charles and Dorothy Malinowski, who were revered storytellers in the Deaf Community. Fellows receive two free classes, one free Script Lab, and more!

Applications for all Chicago Dramatists Scholarships and Fellowships will be closed until further notice.
