The Chicago Dramatists is dedicated to bringing the art and craft of playwriting to communities across Chicago. We have proudly partnered with a series of organizations, and are committed to the growth and development of playwrights here in Chicago, that tell every story.

Literacy Chicago is a non-profit organization that aids adult learners with literacy, and assists people from immigrant populations in their journey towards citizenship. Chicago Dramatists will be working with these adult education learners, teaching literacy through the art of performance and playwriting. Students will perform their own written work, as well as the work of great American playwrights, to develop their literacy skills.

Chicago HOPES For Kids is a Chicago based arts and literacy advocacy organization that works in homeless shelters and women’s shelters across the city. Chicago Dramatists’ teachers will work with youth, helping them tell their stories, and encouraging them to give voice to their experiences. Through theater games, playwriting exercises, and mentorship, our teachers will empower young people to blossom into vibrant storytellers.
