“Scene Shop” Play Development
For experienced playwrights, Scene Shop offers weekly writing exercises to help you develop your script, actors to read your work from home, and constructive group feedback. You also become eligible to participate in the popular Scene Shop Showcase in our theatre.

Arrive on Saturday morning with absolutely nothing prepared and take a creative leap. By Sunday afternoon, writers will have not only written a new play but will hear it performed by professional actors!

Through analysis of works by playwrights who have spoken to the tenor of their times, you will build on your own work each week, making it much more provocative and powerful.

You will learn the best practices of rewriting and discover the right direction to rewrite. Create both a tracking document and an image tracker to detail your story, answer in detail the universal vs specific aspects of your work.

You have written a full-length script, and now you are ready to have your work critiqued. In this rare opportunity you will receive feedback from two professional directors—each giving unique insight and advice to advance your work forward.

Based on Jack Viertel’s landmark book, The Secret Life of the American Musical, this 6-week class offers provides insight into what makes a great musical work. Each week you will study masterwork examples from Gypsy to Hamilton, learn skills to create new work, share work in progress.
