Meghan Beals is a director, dramaturg, and arts administrator and has been an Associate Artist with Chicago Dramatists for several years. Prior to joining the Chicago Dramatists staff as Associate Artistic Director, she served as Literary Manager and Resident Dramaturg at Northlight Theatre. In her three-year tenure, she produced Interplay, a new-play reading series, and dramaturg’d all programmed plays. Before joining Northlight, she acted as Project Assistant for the first three seasons of the First Look Repertory of New Work at Steppenwolf, coordinating and moderating “First Look 101,” the audience-enrichment component of the program.
Before working in Chicago, Meghan was the Artistic Associate at the Pearl Theatre Company, a classical theatre company in New York City, where she served as casting director, co-producer of the artist residency/education program, and manager of the company’s extensive artistic research and development endeavors.
As a director, Meghan has had the pleasure of working with companies such as Goodman, Steppenwolf, Northlight, Chicago Dramatists, Collaboraction, Pavement Group and Theatre Seven (Chicago) and the Women’s Project, Abingdon Theatre, Ensemble Studio Theatre and The Pearl (New York), among others. She is also currently serving as Interim Artistic Director of Caffeine Theatre, for whom she directed Madeleine Olnek’s Wild Nights with Emily.
She earned her B.A. in Theatre at the University of Southern California and her M.F.A. in Directing at The Theatre School at DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois.
