Since 1979, Chicago Dramatists, the playwrights' theatre, has devoted all of its resources and programming to its singular mission of developing new plays and nurturing playwrights.

       Last season alone, Chicago Dramatists' playwrights earned over 700 productions, awards, commissions, readings, and other honors, at large and small theatres in Chicago and around the country. Every year, our work helps to enrich the lives of thousands of theatre patrons across the nation.

        Most Saturdays at 2:00, playwrights, theatre artists, industry professionals, and the general public attend Chicago Dramatists' foremost new play development program, The Saturday Series. It is a place where artists and audiences come together to observe and encourage our writers through staged readings and discussions of their plays-in-progress.

Those who die young are mourned for their lost potential. But what if Mike, a high school hockey player who gets drunk and crashes his car before the play begins, never showed any potential?

LAURA JACQMIN's “Ski Dubai” was produced in Steppenwolf Theatre Company’s 5th Annual First Look Repertory of New Work last summer. “Ten Virgins” was produced by Chicago Dramatists in 2008. She is the winner of the 2008 Wasserstein Prize for emerging female playwrights.
