by Resident Playwright Alice Austen
Directed by Artistic Director Russ Tutterow
In a small, tight-knit community in the Pacific Northwest, a place where it seems like everyone is related, the deep, cold reservoir on the outskirts of town is a source of life-giving water and a dangerous place that can swallow a whole family. One woman’s actions send shockwaves through the community, revealing the underlying struggle of small town America just to keep afloat. Will their efforts to make sense of an incomprehensible act lead the inhabitants to a healing baptism or a tragic drowning?
Alice Austen's Alice Austen is a Resident Playwright at Chicago Dramatists. A Pacific Northwest native, she is a 2006 Recipient of the Royal Court Theatre Residency awarded in New York this fall. Ms. Austen has a degree from Harvard University, where she was one of three students who initiated the establishment of the Harvard Human Rights Journal, and the first American to receive a fellowship to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg in furtherance of her work in Human Rights. She also holds degrees in French and English Literature from the University of Oregon in Eugene, where she ran middle distance and hurdles on the women’s track team.
