by Resident Playwright Roger Rueff
Directed by Artistic Director Russ Tutterow
“How do you exorcise a demon with more than one face?” A conservator of European oil paintings seeks to free herself from a live-in artist friend afflicted with a multiple-personality disorder. As the puzzle unravels, each new personality brings the portrait into sharper focus.
Roger Rueff is an award-winning writer whose produced dramatic works include stage plays, teleplays, and screenplays. His play “Hospitality Suite” premiered at South Coast Repertory in Costa Mesa, California in 1992 and has been subsequently produced at Chicago’s Victory Gardens Theater , other theaters across North America, and in Japan, Italy and Bosnia. “So Many Words” also premiered at South Coast Rep, where it garnered two awards from the L.A. Drama Critics Circle, including best writing. Mr. Rueff’s works for the screen include “The Big Kahuna,” his screen adaptation of “Hospitality Suite,” starring Kevin Spacey and Danny DeVito. “The Big Kahuna” premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September, 1999. Following the Sunday, October 1st performance, the Insight Series will be holding a panel discussion entitled "Uncharted Territory: Art & Insanity in Modern-Day Life." Featuring a panel of psychologists, art therapists and other experts, the discussion will center around the play's exploration of the effect art can have on both our minds, and the world around us..
The end is such a jaw-dropper -- one that I didn't see coming and am loath to risk spoiling in any way. Rueff is a skilled plotter, and he's got a very clever new play here -- one that sticks in your head. - Chris Jones, Chicago Tribune
Two grand performances by Jenny McKnight and Judy Blue...Blue and McKnight make you want to believe everything. - Hedy Weiss, Chicago Sun Times
...riveting work...You'll have to see the show to appreciate the cleverness of the plotting. - Chicagocritic.com
