Character Intensive Workshop
with Resident Playwright Emma Stanton
What are your character's most ambitious dreams and darkest impulses? This two day workshop welcomes playwrights and theater artists who seek to learn more about a character in all stages of its development in an environment with play and curiosity at its center. Utilizing a diverse range of exercise (from Charles Mee, Lynn Nottage, and Maria Irene Fornes), participants will explore the voice and point of view of the character, how the character behaves in space and in relation to others, and lastly, participants will have the opportunity to collaborate and revise their work with professional actors for a final presentation at the end of the second day. Participants of this workshop will not only walk away with new material and a broader perspective of their characters, but they will carry with them tools that will help them approach their work with a sense of curiosity, rigor, and innovation.
