Post-Reading Discussion Moderator: Resident Playwright, Mary Ruth Clarke
Realizing that Amanda is about to embark on a whole new adventure, Sharon, her mother, re-examines her own life. A stay-at-home mother for years, she has put her own dreams on hold to care for Amanda and her younger, developmentally disabled daughter, Molly. Is she willing to delay indefinitely her own dreams of becoming a fashion designer? Does she want to stay married to Adam, her clueless, self-absorbed husband, who never helps her with their 15 year old, Molly? "Alterations" explores these questions, and examines the relationships between mother and daughters, husband and wife, and Sharon's marital, emotional and practical challenges living with and loving a disabled child.
About the First Draft Series
The First Draft Series is an exclusive series of Tuesday-night play readings for and by Network playwrights. These are private, salon-style readings in which playwrights perform the roles and then discuss the plays in a format similar to that used in the Saturday Series. The discussions are moderated by a Resident Playwright or member of the artistic staff.
