Please join us in welcoming our new resident playwrights! The three writers below join our current resident playwrights, an active and dynamic group who support one another as moderators and dramaturgs, both for each other and for programming at Chicago Dramatists.  Learn more about our current resident playwrights here.


Isaac Gomez is a writer and dramaturg currently working as the Literary Manager at Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago where he curates the Public Programs series, directs the new play development department, and heads the IGNITION Festival of New Plays. As playwright: LA RUTA (Goodman Theatre’s Latina/o Theatre Celebration, Oregon Shakespeare Festival Latino Play Project; Austin Critics Table New Play Award 2013; Pivot Arts Incubator Series); THE DISPLACED (ALTA Chicago - workshop, Definition Theater Company - workshop); THE WAY SHE SPOKE (World premiere: Greenhouse Theater Center). His dramaturgy credits include COCKED, THE WHO & THE WHAT, THE HOUSE THAT WILL NOT STAND, SAMSARA, DEATH AND THE MAIDEN, REST (VGT, Chicago); MY MA√ĎANA COMES, BETWEEN YOU, ME, AND THE LAMPSHADE  (Teatro Vista, Chicago); THE HAIRY APE, GOOD FRIDAY Oracle Productions); BADFIC LOVE (Strange Bedfellows, Chicago); assistant dramaturg on LUNA GALE and THE SOLID SAND BELOW (Goodman Theatre). He is the Creative Director at the Alliance of Latino Theatre Artists in Chicago where he runs and is a participant of El Semillero: ALTA Chicago’s Latino Playwrights Circle, a resident playwright at Chicago Dramatists, an Artistic Associate of Teatro Vista, a steering committee member of the Latina/o Theatre Commons (LTC) and an artistic community member at The Hypocrites in Chicago.

Georgette Kelly

Georgette Kelly is a playwright with one foot in Chicago and the other in New York.  She received the inaugural Hope on Stage Playwriting Award, a 2016 Lambda Literary Fellowship, and the 2014 Jane Chambers Student Playwriting Award. Her work has been featured on The Kilroys List and chosen as a finalist for the O’Neill Playwrights Conference, the Goodman Playwrights Unit, the Stage Left Playwright Residency, and the Alliance/Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition. Georgette’s plays include: IN THE BELLY OF THE WHALE, BALLAST, I CARRY YOUR HEART, F*CK LA VIE D'ARTISTE, FAITH IN A FALLEN WORLD, HOW TO HERO OR THE SUBWAY PLAYand an adaptation of Jeanette Winterson’s LIGHTHOUSEKEEPING. Her work has been developed by The Kennedy Center, The National New Play Network, The DC Source Festival, The Alliance Theatre, terraNOVA Collective, Taffety Punk, Diversionary Theatre, Capital Stage, TOSOS, Prologue Theatre, New Leaf Theatre, and Chicago’s DCASE. She is a member of the TerraNOVA Groundbreakers Playwrights Group, The Dramatists Guild of America, and Writers WorkSpace.  Georgette holds a B.A. in Performance Studies from Northwestern University and an M.F.A. in Playwriting from Hunter College, where she studied with Tina Howe, Arthur Kopit, and Mark Bly.

Susan H. Pak

Susan H. Pak is assistant professor in residence at Northwestern University in Qatar. She received an MFA in writing for the screen and stage at Northwestern University; she received both a BA in English and a JD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Her plays have been produced in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles and include: GHOST GIRL at the Workshop Theater, T.A.B. at New York’s Downtown Urban Theater Festival, and the Manhattan Repertory Theater Festival; HATERS at New York’s Midtown International Theater Festival; BABY SHOWER at New York’s Network One Act Festival; INCREDIBLE INVISIBLE at Chicago’s Bailiwick Director’s Fest; LADIES’ MAN at Chicago Dramatists; and The Writers at Theater Unleashed in Los Angeles. Her full-length play BOYS enjoyed a 12-week run at the Tinfish Theater in Chicago.
